Happy International Women’s Day!
The flexible rules of the science fiction setting can empower and liberate female protagonists, argues Jennifer Stuller.
Finally got around to seeing this.
Director: Alejandro González Iñárritu
Leonardo DiCaprio completely immerses himself fully in the role (and in the belly of a horse *spoiler?*) in order to make the audience feel as hopeless and exhausted as he does, at points some of the expressions we see through some close-ups are quite disturbing . Not that i’m complaining; the film may lack some emotional character development and seems to half-bake a back story that we never quite get to understanding fully, but you can’t help but really feel like you are there, shivering and trudging your way through the wilderness. Tom Hardy continues to play a bad-guy well, although at times, he also continues to be borderline inaudible (See: Bane).

Is Kick-Ass an example of how we are desensitised to violence in the media?

Do you understand film classifications? I’m guessing the reason you watched those horror films and bought GTA V is because you might not!
Have a go, leave a comment so we know how you scored.
These are the media texts I want to use to support my critical investigation: The Representation of Ethnic Minorities in Fiction Film.
Seems there is a lot more to this game than the senseless violence and vulgarity…
